Build a Room Using Components
There are 12 available components to cover the walls in a roombox or a room within your dollhouse. The total height, including top and bottom trims is 9 ½”. It is designed to fit in a 10” or more ceiling height.
You can add as many panels as needed in order to complete the room, using a center column to join them. There is a Corner Column to change direction of your walls and Left and Right Columns to complete the scene.
There are 3 sizes of plain panels, which incorporate a fireplace, and a Victorian or French door.
The measurement given for the columns reflect the difference in joining one wall to the other. The column ¼” stated is the amount needed for the join. The actual column on the outside is ½” wide, which overlaps on either wall.
The top and bottom trims are identical. Each is 24” in length. Remember to take into account that if you want your room longer, trim can be added. Conversely, if you are making two walls, you will have to remember that because of the 45 degree angle cut, you will be losing 1”. Both sides have been cut at a 45 degree angle to take in account the corner of the room. So, start at one corner of the room, and work your way around. At the end, you only need to make a straight cut, not worrying about angles.
The fireplace has a hidden space beneath it so when you are applying the bottom trim, you don’t have to cut it on either side, just glue right through! If you need to add addition bottom trim because your room is longer than 24”, the best place to do it would be underneath the fireplace so that the joint won’t show.
With these components you are only limited by your imagination and can make many varied rooms to suit your needs.
Tips and Hints:
Step 1: Measure your room and choose the panels and columns which will work best for you.
Make sure that you have a left and right column, and enough center columns to complete your project. Don’t forget to add ¼” for each column to your total measurement.
Step 2: Start in one corner, leaving 1” allowance at the end of your top and bottom trims. Build your room outside of your Roombox or dollhouse. Put all your components together, then mark where you need to cut off the top and bottom trim, after your components are put together.
Step 3: Use a good wood glue to glue everything in place. If you are thinking in the future of perhaps removing the walls, then just apply glue to the top and bottom trims, which will make it easier to remove in the future.
In order to cover the end cut, use a stain pencil or furniture touch-up marker. |
